My life is full of irony. I have come to accept that as a fact.
I never used to drink alcohol. I didn't smoke or do drugs. I ate healthy, fresh food, all the "good" things. Then one day, I was diagnosed with cancer. Everything changed. Long story short my body is now very damaged from all the chemo, radiation etc. I have joint damage, nerve damage, daily constant pain, the list goes on. I'm happy to be alive, after being told I would not survive. I continue to give 'the bird' to cancer. But here comes the irony...
I have been reading lately about the health benefits of red wine. Yes, that's what I said - health benefits of red wine.
According to research a glass of red wine a day (or two for men) has many anti-aging benefits including making your skin glow and your hair grow. It also helps you to "relax" which in turn has health benefits. There are studies that show people who drink red wine on a regular basis have a significantly lower risk of Alzheimer's disease, cancer, diabetes, and all of the things that go along with aging. The antioxidants in red wine may help prevent heart disease by increasing levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL) cholesterol (the "good" cholesterol) and protecting against artery damage. It can it can also lower the prevalence of kidney disease. Studies indicate that regular wine drinkers have an 80% lower risk of developing Alzheimer's disease. And, reports show that wine drinkers live five years longer than a teetotaler.
I was a teetotaler, until today.
Today I decided to do something for my health that I never imagined I would do. I'm taking up drinking red wine!
The health benefits of drinking red wine are irrefutable. And so, for the sake of my health I went to the store to purchase myself some red wine. I started out with a sweet red Italian and a semi-sweet red German wine.
I may not have a taste for wine, but by golly I aim to develop one.
Here's to your health!
